White Sox lefthander John Danks’ name has come up a lot in various trade rumors this offseason as general manager Ken Williams is actively shopping a number of players on his roster in an effort to remake the team. But Danks hasn’t been sent anywhere yet, and he told the Sun-Times‘ Joe Cowley in an interview that he’s “not losing an ounce of sleep” over the situation. He’s also heard about the king’s ransom Williams has been asking teams in return for Danks:

“More than anything, this is the business of baseball,’’ Danks said. “I don’t blame Kenny for trying to get as much as he can. I took that as him being early in the process. I took it as him throwing feelers out there.’’

It’s still possible for Danks to stay in Chicago for the long term, though he says the White Sox have yet to get serious about a contract extension.

The long-time Major League Baseball GM then called police after confirming with family members that no one had visited the home. While Chicago police were at the scene, a man in a fur coat was spotted looking through a window and was questioned by officers. Investigators determined that the man, Wayne Field, matched a hospital ID bracelet found within the home, the newspaper reported.According to The Chicago Sun-Times, Williams approached Field while the 51-year old was being arrested and saw that he was donning his clothes, was in possession of his Cadillac keys and was wearing Williams’ 2005 World Series ring.Field was charged with burglary and was being held at the Cook County Jail on $100,000 bond. It’s unclear how long Field may have been living in the home, or if he is a White Sox fan.

Williams “looks at the guy and says, ‘Where is my ring?’” said the person, adding that the man turned around and showed Williams his handcuffed hands and the ring on one of his fingers.

Williams retrieved his ring and watch, but no longer wanted his clothes that Field was wearing, the person said.

Conklin said he believed that Field was represented by a public defender. The public defender’s office could not immediately confirm that one of its attorneys represented Field during the hearing.

The 51-year-old man, Wayne Field, was wearing Williams’ clothes and his 2005 championship ring. He also defrosted a lobster, ate his frozen pizza, drank his beer, and laid in his bed. Weird.

Field was arrested for burglary and will appear in court today.

MILWAUKEE — As the general managers’ meetings approaches a conclusion, the Chicago White Sox’s Ken Williams said he continues to lay the groundwork for the winter meetings on Dec. 5-8 in Dallas.

But he did sense that there is more of a sense of urgency at the GM meetings than in past Novembers.

“I will say the tone of these meetings is more serious and people are getting to the point a little sooner than usual,” Williams said. “So I don’t know if it’s a byproduct of this just being a different group of guys because there are a lot of new guys around, or just the seriousness of the individual situations that they want to get some things crossed off their list.”

Williams didn’t want to address how much playing time backup catcher Tyler Flowers would receive in 2012. A.J. Pierzynski is the incumbent and will make $6 million and has trade veto rights.

“Again, it’s too early because we don’t know what the club is going to look like,” said Williams, adding that any speculation would be disrespectful to new manager Robin Ventura.

Williams also defused another inquiry about the state of the bullpen with Chris Sale moving to the rotation. The Sox added Ronnie Veal and Jose Quintana to the 40-man roster last week and have veteran Will Ohman and Hector Santiago in addition to 2010 American League all-star Matt Thornton – who could be dealt to a contender.

“We’ll have a representative bullpen and a rotation that can compete, maybe a little younger,” Williams said. “But we’ll see how it works out.”

“We got some players that have garnered some interest from a number of clubs,” Williams said, the Trib reports. “And we’ve got to exhaust ourselves to make sure that if we end up making a deal or end up staying the course and try to add to it, that we know exactly what we’re getting ourselves into.”

The 26-year-old Danks went 8-12 with a 4.33 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 170.1 innings pitched this past season. After arbitration, he’ll likely make about $15 million next season, the Tribune notes. The 28-year-old Floyd went 12-13 with a 4.37 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 193.2 innings pitched this past season for the Sox.

Williams also told the paper that the team has had contact with Mark Buehrle(notes) to let him know it is interested in re-signing him.

In an interview with WMVP-AM 1000, Williams admitted that the offers might not be overwhelming because so many players had subpar 2011 seasons.

Without naming names, Williams appeared willing to listen to offers for right fielder Carlos Quentin and pitchers John Danks, Gavin Floyd and Matt Thornton if the right proposals were tendered.

“What we have to do is weigh whatever they’re offering up against our chances for the next season,” Williams told the “Talking Baseball” show. “Because if we’re going to move our valuable pieces, it’s going to be for major league-ready talent as they can grow with this nice nucleus in place.”

Williams mentioned Dayan Viciedo, Tyler Flowers, Alejandro De Aza and Brent Morel as part of the nucleus.

Williams could seek to follow a plan after the 2006 season, when he acquired Danks and Floyd in trades involving Freddy Garcia and Brandon McCarthy.

Williams added that he would speak later with Adam Dunn, whom he said needed a break after the worst season of his productive major league career.

General manager Ken Williams indicated Tuesday that the Chicago White Sox will make an official announcement on their 2012 coaching staff in a few days.

“It’s probably a good idea that we inform them before we let you know,” Williams said.

While multiple sources indicated that Triple-A Charlotte manager Joe McEwing will take over the third base coaching duties and Mark Parent will leave the Philadelphia organization to become the bench coach, the hitting coach position has yet to be finalized.

Speaking in general terms about his staff, Ventura said, “we’re still going through that as far as the personalities and the people and who I’m comfortable with. It’s still in the process.”

One factor that could be under consideration is the added involvement by the coaching staff. Williams said that Ventura and first base coach Harold Baines will be involved more with the mental approaches of the Sox’s hitters.

“With the names we’re talking about internally, it will fit together such that Harold will be putting more time into the mental side of some of our hitters’ approaches,” Williams said. “He was pretty good at it and remains a valuable asset in that area.

“But he will take a greater role along those lines, as will Robin. That’s what I meant by a coaching staff that will work together. It’s all intertwined, not just on one guy to solve the problems of our hitters.”

Simply, Ventura could be choosing a candidate – whether it’s minor league hitting coach Jeff Manto , Charlotte hitting coach Tim Laker or a surprise instructor – who can step back and let Ventura and Baines express their opinions in addition to remaining an effective instructor.

Robin Ventura was introduced Tuesday as the Chicago White Sox’s new manager and said he has had plenty of congratulatory phone calls. The best advice he’s heard: be himself.

Ventura, who has no major league coaching or managerial experience, says he is humbled and honored to be the team’s 39th manager. He played for the White Sox for 10 years.

He replaces Ozzie Guillen, who is now manager of the Florida Marlins.

General manager Ken Williams said Ventura’s leadership abilities are evident. He also said that before hiring Ventura he considered first baseman Paul Konerko as a player/manager, although they never talked about it.

In a statement about the decision team GM Ken Williams said:

“When I met with the media as our season ended, I identified one person at the very top of my managerial list.” Williams went on to add, “I wanted someone who met very specific criteria centered around his leadership abilities. Robin Ventura was that man. His baseball knowledge and expertise, his professionalism, his familiarity with the White Sox and Chicago and his outstanding character make him absolutely the right person to lead our clubhouse and this organization into the seasons ahead.”

Ventura actually wasn’t sold on the idea until he met with Williams:

“There was a lot of (apprehension) when I first went home to talk to my wife about it,” Ventura said. “It turned us upside down. I have a good thing going and it was easy getting back into the game doing what I was doing. I had the freedom to coach and come back home. I think there was a lot of comfort in talking to the family that this was the White Sox, which for us is an extended family.”

A former Chicago White Sox player from 1989-1998, Venture played in the Bigs for 16 seasons including the 1999-2001 season with the New York Mets, a season with the New York Yankees and a career finishing stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he ended his player career in 2004.

Do you think Ventura is the right decision for manager of the Chicago White Sox?
