| Guillen threatens to ‘rip’ out Jenks’ throat as argument escalates | |
Guillen responded with a threat after Jenks recently made comments about one of Guillen’s sons, along with the troubled relationship the manager has had with White Sox GM Ken Williams. From the Chicago Tribune:
OK, Dalton. After the allusion to violence, Ozzie made a charge:
OK, let’s refresh everyone on how this started. Jenks saved 173 games for the White Sox from 2005-2010, but the club did not tender him a contract during the offseason. After he signed with the Red Sox, Jenks was critical of how the White Sox let him go. He also said, “I’m looking forward to playing for a manager who knows how to run a bullpen.” Oh, no, he di’n't. The middle of Guillen’s three sons — 25-year-old Oney — responded by using his Twitter account to blast Jenks personally. Jenks, not exactly known for his maturity at age 30, actually took the high road at first. But it didn’t last. Jenks told the Tribune on Thursday: “A lot of the stuff with Ozzie and the front office gets old. It has been a problem for a long time. It was a problem before last year. … It’s going to be nice for me to see how things are done here.” Mild stuff. Until.
Yeah, that makes three of you sometimes.
Bottom of bus, meet Bobby.
Possible hyperbole. Ozzie went back to imagining he was in a martial arts movie:
Will be? You guys are acting like you were raised by wolves. As amusing, even hilarious, as Guillen can be, The good news is, there’s really not anything more to say. For the relationship to devolve any further, Ozzie will have to do as he threatens and rip out Jenks’ throat. OK, Motal Kombatants, FINISH HIM! | Oney Guillen calls out Bobby Jenks on Twitter | |
Boston Red Sox reliever Bobby Jenks criticized his old boss, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, and one of Guillen’s sons quickly shot back by making serious claims against the former Chicago closer. Oney Guillen said on Tuesday via Twitter that, among other things, Jenks had problems with alcohol, experienced serious marital problems and assaulted a clubhouse attendant in Arizona while with the Sox.
“You cried in the manager’s office because you have problems; now you go and talk bad about the Sox after they protected you for seven years. Ungrateful,” Oney Guillen tweeted. Earlier, Jenks told MLB.com that he respected Ozzie Guillen personally but could no longer pitch for him. Ozzie Guillen demoted Jenks after a stretch of poor outings last season. The two also clashed publicly over Jenks’ conditioning. Jenks signed with the Red Sox as a free agent this offseason. He’ll set up for Jonathan Papelbon. “I want to play for a manager who trusts his relievers, regardless of what’s going on,” Jenks told MLB.com. “With the way Ozzie was talking this winter and the way he treated me, I don’t want to fight with the guy. How many times did he question my ability, and then saying how he would love to have me back, but I would have to come to spring training and fight for the closer’s role like anyone else? “Why would I come back to that negativity? I’m looking forward to playing for a manager [Terry Francona] who knows how to run a bullpen.” Oney Guillen was angry that Jenks would go to the media with his issues. “Be a man and tell the manager or the coaching staff how you feel, or the organization when you were with the Sox, not when you leave,” Oney tweeted. “You say the manager didn’t trust you? He kept putting your fat [butt] there and you kept blowing it. He never took you away from that role. Unreal. … “You coward. Say it to their face when you were with them.” Jenks and Ozzie Guillen have not commented publicly about Oney Guillen’s comments. Oney Guillen is no stranger to Twitter-fueled controversy. The White Sox fired him earlier this year for objectionable tweets. The decision led to problems between Ozzie Guillen and general manager Kenny Williams.
