White Sox Rumors: Chicago Still Open To Dealing…

Read More: Gavin Floyd (P – CWS), Chicago White Sox

CBS Sports’ Danny Knobler reports that the Chicago White Sox will continue listening to offers for starter Gavin Floyd, but the price tag is expected to stay high:

The belief now is that Williams will consider offers for Floyd and others, but that he will also continue to maintain a high price tag, as he has all winter. While Williams appears to be open to dealing Floyd, he also seems open to keeping him. Floyd is signed through 2012, but his contract carries an affordable $9.5 million option for 2013.

Since coming from Philadelphia to Chicago in the winter of 2006, Floyd has matured in a good, durable starting pitcher, and his contract is reasonable, which adds a bit to his trade value.

2011 MLB Rumors: White Sox Won’t Rule Out Trading…

Read More: John Danks (P – CWS), Jake Peavy (P – CWS), Mark Buehrle (P – CWS), Gavin Floyd (P – CWS), Zach Stewart (P – CWS), Chris Sale (P – CWS), Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are trying to rebuild their rotation this winter, and that could mean a bunch of things. Mark Buehrle is likely to be leaving, Chris Sale is moving from the bullpen to the rotation and the team is hoping that Jake Peavy can finally establish himself as a consistent contributor in Chicago.

As part of this whole situation, the team is considering trades for Gavin Floyd and John Danks, and according to John Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, White Sox GM Kenny Williams won’t rule out trading both of them. That would certainly be a shock to most White Sox fans, but with Sale making the transition and Zach Stewart providing the team with another cheap, MLB-ready option, it appears that the team is seriously considering trades involving both pitchers.

A rotation without those two would be led by Peavy, Sale, Stewart and Phil Humber, although it would be surprising if the team didn’t get back some MLB-ready talent in the deal that could presumably help to fill things out.

Not much else going on in the MLB planet today.

Teams calling White Sox about Danks and Floyd

John DanksChicago White Sox GM Ken Williams says that he’s already found that there’s plenty of interest from other teams to make deals for some of his players, such as starting pitchers John Danks(notes) and Gavin Floyd(notes). But Williams tells the Chicago Tribune that he’s not sure if he’s ready to deal for younger players just yet or stick with what he’s got and add to it.

“We got some players that have garnered some interest from a number of clubs,” Williams said, the Trib reports. “And we’ve got to exhaust ourselves to make sure that if we end up making a deal or end up staying the course and try to add to it, that we know exactly what we’re getting ourselves into.”

The 26-year-old Danks went 8-12 with a 4.33 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 170.1 innings pitched this past season. After arbitration, he’ll likely make about $15 million next season, the Tribune notes. The 28-year-old Floyd went 12-13 with a 4.37 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 193.2 innings pitched this past season for the Sox.

Williams also told the paper that the team has had contact with Mark Buehrle(notes) to let him know it is interested in re-signing him.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 4, Baltimore 3

Published: Aug. 9, 2011 at 10:36 PM

BALTIMORE, Aug. 9 (UPI) — Brent Morel drove in a pair of runs and preserved Chicago’s lead with a diving stop Tuesday, lifting the White Sox to a 4-3 win over Baltimore.

Morel followed Carlos Quentin’s solo homer in the second with an RBI single, handing Chicago a 2-0 lead, and added a bases-empty clout of his own in the fourth.

With the White Sox clinging to a 4-3 lead in the seventh and Felix Pie at third, Morel made a diving stab of a J.J. Hardy grounder and threw to first for the out, preserving Chicago’s fifth straight win.

A.J. Pierzynski went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and Gavin Floyd (10-10) collected the win, allowing three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Jo-Jo Reyes (5-9) absorbed the loss in his first start for the Orioles, who obtained him on waivers after his release from Toronto. He yielded four runs on five hits in four innings.

What do you guys think about this.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 8, Detroit 2

DETROIT, July 15 (UPI) — Carlos Quentin drove in two of Chicago’s four third-inning runs and had three RBI overall Friday in leading the White Sox to an 8-2 win over Detroit.

Adam Dunn and Gordon Beckham delivered two RBI each in making Chicago’s return to action from the All-Star break a positive one. The White Sox went into the break having lost five out of six. They suffered a sub-.500 record during the first half of a season for the first time in four years.

Gavin Floyd (7-9) went 7 2/3 innings to get the victory and end a personal four-game skid. He allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits with five strikeouts.

Chicago handed Justin Verlander (12-5) a rare tough outing. He gave up four earned runs on seven hits in six innings. Verlander had gone 8-1 in his previous nine starts while producing a mere 0.75 ERA.

Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera reached 1,500 hits for his career by going 2-for-3. He hit a two-run homer in the fourth after the Tigers had fallen behind 4-0.

Twins Continue Dominance of White Sox With 8-5…

The Minnesota Twins continued their success against the Chicago White Sox in 2011, winning their sixth game in six tries against their rivals from Chicago with an 8-5 victory at U.S. Cellular Field on Friday night. The Twins have won nine straight over the White Sox going back to last season, and are 28-6 against Chicago in their last 34 meetings.

Things certainly didn’t look promising for the Twins at the beginning, however. Minnesota did get off to a 1-0 lead after Michael Cuddyer’s RBI single in the top of the first, but the White Sox responded in a big way in the bottom half. All nine White Sox hitters came to the plate against Nick Blackburn (7-6, 4.24 ERA), and Chicago put five runs on the board. The highlight for the White Sox was a two-run homer by Adam Dunn, but when the inning was complete, the White Sox had a 5-1 lead and appeared to be on their way to a comfortable victory.

However, the Twins didn’t give up against White Sox starter Gavin Floyd (6-9, 4.59 ERA). Floyd, who came into Friday night’s game having not won a decision since June first and who had personally lost six straight starts against Minnesota, gave up a run in the top of the third on a Danny Valencia sacrifice fly to make the score 5-2, but the floodgates would open for Minnesota in the top of the fourth.

With one out in the inning and Ben Revere on first base, Alexi Casilla singled to put runners on first and second, and both runners moved up 90 feet after a wile pitch by Floyd. Floyd then hit Joe Mauer with a pitch to load the bases, and All-Star Michael Cuddyer singled to center to score Revere and make the score 5-3 in favor of the White Sox and leaving the bases loaded. After Danny Valencia struck out, French Resistance Fighter Rene Tosoni (™ Twinkie Town) kept the inning alive with a single that scored both Casilla and Mauer to tie the game at five.

That was enough for Floyd to get pulled from the game, and Chicago brought left-hander Will Ohman in to face Luke Hughes. After working a full count, Hughes blasted a huge home run into the left-center field stands to make the score 8-5 in favor of the Twins.

After that offensive explosion, neither team could generate any more runs the rest of the evening. Following his rough first inning, Blackburn allowed four more hits in four more innings of work. Phil Dumatrait, Alex Burnett, Joe Nathan, and Matt Capps combined for four innings of one-hit baseball, with Capps getting the save after a 1-2-3 ninth. The save was the fourteenth for Capps in twenty chances this season, and his first converted save in his last four chances.

The White Sox and Twins will get together again at U.S. Cellular Field on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 3:10 PM Central time. The Twins will send left-hander Brian Duensing (6-7, 4.25 ERA) to the mound, while the White Sox will counter with left-hander Mark Buehrle (6-5, 3.66 ERA).
