CHICAGO, Sept. 27 (UPI) — The Chicago White Sox would be compensated if Ozzie Guillen winds up with an undisclosed team, likely the Florida Marlins, the Chisox’s general manager says.

Chicago released Guillen as their field manager Monday and it was widely reported he could land with the Florida Marlins. Guillen, 47, had wanted out if the White Sox wouldn’t give him a contract extension beyond 2012.

In a Twitter post at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Guillen wrote: “Weird to be in miami in this time but very happy ready to go.”

Chisox General Manager Ken Williams said the team has agreed on compensation with an undisclosed team but Guillen is free to negotiate with any club, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The newspaper said the White Sox would get two minor league players as compensation if he signs with Florida. The Tribune said two scouting sources said Guillen is expected to be offered a four-year deal by the Marlins worth nearly $16 million.

At Florida, Guillen would succeed interim manager Jack McKeon, who announced Monday he would retire at season’s end. McKeon took over in June when Edwin Rodriguez quit.

MLB.com has reported one of the minor leaguers will be infielder Osvaldo Martinez. The Tribune indicated the other player isn’t expected to come from Florida’s current 40-man roster

Guillen managed the White Sox to a record of 678-617 during his eight-year tenure and a World Series title in 2005.

The White Sox have a losing record this season and are in third place in the American League Central.

Gotta run!.

CHICAGO (AP) – Juan Pierre’s game-ending single in the 14th inning capped a wild, five-hour marathon as the Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 on Tuesday night.

Gordon Beckham doubled off of Chad Durbin (2-2) with one out in the final inning, advancing to third on Brent Morel’s infield single.

David Huff reliever Durbin to face Pierre, who singled to left to win it.

Jason Frasor (3-2) worked the top of the inning to earn the victory.

The White Sox have won nine of 11 and remain 3 1-2 games behind the American League Central-leading Detroit Tigers. The loss drops the second-place Indians to three games back.

Cleveland rallied to tie the game in the ninth on a pair of defensive miscues by the White Sox. After Sergio Santos issued a one-out walk, Michael Brantley popped a single in front of center fielder Alex Rios, who had just come in as a defensive replacement.

Alejandro De Aza moved over to right field to take over for Carlos Quentin, who Rios replaced.

With runners on first and third, Shin-soo Choo tapped a slow roller to second base. Beckham thought about throwing home but hesitated and dropped the ball. He was only able to get a force out at second, allowing the tying run to score.

It was Santos’ fourth blown save in 29 chances this year.

De Aza tripled in runs in the second and sixth. He became the first White Sox player to triple twice in a game since Alex Cintron on April 13, 2006.

Paul Konerko extended his hit streak to 12 games with four more hits. After doubling in the fifth, Konerko tagged up at second and slid into third on Carlos Quentin’s flyout to center, later scoring on Alexei Ramirez

The White Sox captain has been hobbled by his left knee since being hit by a pitch on July 31 against Boston. He has been unable to play in the field but has hit in every game since returning to action on Aug. 4.

Tyler Flowers and Rios also tripled for the White Sox, who tallied five three-baggers in one game for the first time since Sept. 17, 1920 against the New York Yankees. The club record is six triples, a feat achieved three different times. The White Sox had just eight triples on the year coming into the game.

Rios tripled to lead off the 11th, but the White Sox stranded him on third.

Pierre hit a solo home run off of Cleveland starter Ubaldo Jimenez in the fourth. It was his second homer of the season and 16th in his 12-year career.

Gavin Floyd struck out nine over 5 2-3 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits in the no-decision. He retired the first nine batters he faced, including seven strikeouts. He struck out the side in the second.

Jiminez allowed five runs, four earned, on nine hits over 4 2-3 innings, throwing 105 pitches. He struck out five and walked one.<

NOTES: Indians LHP Tony Sipp was ejected in the 10th for arguing a controversial call after being removed from the game. … The White Sox placed C A.J. Pierzynski (fractured left wrist) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 13, and purchased the contract of C Donny Lucy from Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago requested waivers for the purpose of granting RHP Brian Bruney his unconditional release after he cleared waivers and rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A. … Indians OF Grady Sizemore (knee/sports hernia) ran on a treadmill on Tuesday and is scheduled to do so again on Thursday. Cleveland hopes he will progress to land-based running by the time the team returns home on Aug. 22. … Indians INF Jason Kipnis (side) was out of the lineup for the second straight game but was available to pinch-hit according to manager Manny Acta. … LHP Mark Buehrle (10-5, 3.06 ERA) takes the mound for the White Sox in the second game of the series on Wednesday. The lefty has allowed three runs or less in 18 straight starts. Cleveland sends RHP Fausto Carmona (5-12, 5.12) to the hill. Carmona has allowed 18 runs in eight innings in his two starts against the White Sox this season (0-2).

White Sox hit .500, talk of division race

CHICAGO – John Danks and the Chicago White Sox are focused on catching Detroit and Cleveland in the AL Central.

Moving above .500 would be a nice start.

Danks pitched six strong innings, Brent Lillibridge hit a three-run homer and the White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2 Sunday.

Paul Konerko added three hits for the White Sox (60-60), who have won eight of 10 to reach .500. They haven’t had a winning record since they were 7-6 on April 15.

Alexei Ramirez had two hits and scored twice as Chicago improved its home record to 26-33 and moved within four games of AL Central-leading Detroit, which lost 8-5 at Baltimore. The White Sox also won consecutive games in a single series at U.S. Cellular Field for the first time since June 21 and 22 against the Cubs.

“I think .500 is a little overblown,” Danks said. “Obviously, we didn’t expect to be .500 at this point coming into the year. We’re looking at more Cleveland and Detroit than being .500. That’s just a reality. We have to win ballgames.

“We have to finish ahead of Cleveland and Detroit. If that puts us above .500 so be it. Our focus is more on being ahead of them and being in first than being above .500.”

Danks (5-9) gave up two runs and four hits, struck out six and walked four, improving to 5-1 with a 2.29 ERA in his last nine starts.

“He’s got his cutter. It’s 90 miles an hour and he’s got a plus-changeup, plus-fastball and plus-cutter,” Royals designated hitter Billy Butler said. “When you’ve got that kind of stuff and it’s working, you’re going to have a tough day.”

Jeff Francis (4-13) lasted 3 2/3 innings for Kansas City, which has lost six of seven.

The White Sox jumped on Francis in the first inning. Ramirez was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to third on Konerko’s single. Carlos Quentin then hit an RBI single and Lillibridge drove a 1-2 fastball over the wall in left for his 10th homer.

Danks was working on a no-hitter before Butler reached on a bad-hop single with two out in the sixth. Butler’s roller down the first-base line hopped past Lillibridge. Official scorer Bob Rosenberg originally ruled the play an error, but the call was quickly changed to a hit.

“There is a pretty good divot right there. There was nothing he can do about it,” Danks said. “They switched it back to a hit. I heard the boos. I don’t blame Lilli at all. That’s a tough play, there was nothing you can do about it. There was two outs, I should’ve pitched over it.”

The White Sox open a three-game series against second-place Cleveland on Tuesday. They are 6-1 against the Indians this year.

That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow.

Lillibridge, Danks lift surging ChiSox (AP)

CHICAGO (AP)—John Danks(notes) and the Chicago White Sox are focused on catching
Detroit and Cleveland in the AL Central.

Moving about .500 would be a nice start.

Danks pitched six strong innings, Brent Lillibridge(notes) hit a three-run homer
and the White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Sunday.

Paul Konerko(notes) added three hits for the White Sox (60-60), who have won eight
of 10 to reach .500. They haven’t had a winning record since they were 7-6 on
April 15.

Alexei Ramirez(notes) had two hits and scored twice as Chicago improved its abysmal
home record to 26-33 and moved within four games of AL Central-leading Detroit,
which lost 8-5 at Baltimore. The White Sox also won consecutive games in a
single series at U.S. Cellular Field for the first time since June 21 and 22
against the Cubs.

“I think .500 is a little over blown,” Danks said. “Obviously, we didn’t
expect to be .500 at this point coming into the year. We’re looking at more
Cleveland and Detroit than being .500. That’s just a reality. We have to win
ballgames.

“We have to finish ahead of Cleveland and Detroit. If that puts us above
.500 so be it. Our focus is more on being ahead of them and being in first than
being above .500.”

Danks (5-9) allowed two runs and four hits, struck out six and walked four,
improving to 5-1 with a 2.29 ERA in his last nine starts. The left-hander lost
his first eight decisions of the season.

“He’s got his cutter. It’s 90 miles an hour and he’s got a plus-changeup,
plus-fastball and plus-cutter,” Royals designated hitter Billy Butler(notes) said.
“When you’ve got that kind of stuff and it’s working, you’re going to have a
tough day. We battled and got two off him, but it felt like a lot when we got
two off a guy like that.”

Jeff Francis(notes) (4-13) lasted just 3 2-3 innings for Kansas City, which has
lost six of seven. Top prospect Mike Moustakas(notes) went 0 for 3 and is 0 for 34 this
season against Chicago.

The White Sox jumped on Francis in the first inning. Ramirez was hit by a
pitch with one out and moved to third on Konerko’s single. Carlos Quentin(notes) then
hit an RBI single and Lillibridge drove a 1-2 fastball over the wall in left for
his 10th homer.

“He left a fastball right over the plate and I was able to get my hands
through it and get it over the fence,” Lillibridge said. “It was a huge one. I
hit the ball hard a lot yesterday but I couldn’t find the RBIs, it was
frustrating, but keep on swinging it and it will eventually pan out. It was big
one early, it put us up 4-0 and I knew that would be enough for John.”

Francis has allowed 26 runs in the first inning over his 25 starts this
season.

“As long as I’ve been pitching, that’s been somewhat of an issue,” Francis
said. “You try everything you can. I think if I found a reason, I probably
wouldn’t be doing it.”

Danks was working on a no-hitter before Butler reached on a bad-hop single
with two out in the sixth. Butler’s roller down the first-base line hopped up
and past Lillibridge. Official scorer Bob Rosenberg originally ruled the play an
error, but the call was quickly changed to a hit.

“There is a pretty good divot right there. There was nothing he can do
about it,” Danks said. “They switched it back to a hit. I heard the boos. I
don’t blame Lilli at all. That’s a tough play, there was nothing you can do
about it. There was two outs, I should’ve pitched over it.”

Jeff Francoeur(notes) followed with a double down the left-field line and Mitch
Maier(notes)
had a two-run single to cut the White Sox lead to 6-2.

The White Sox open an important three-game series against second-place
Cleveland on Tuesday. They are 6-1 against the Tribe this year.

NOTES: Royals RHP Felipe Paulino(notes) is Monday’s scheduled starter against the
New York Yankees. In his last start, Paulino pitched five innings before leaving
with a 3-1 lead after 84 pitches due to back stiffness. … White Sox C A.J.
Pierzynski(notes)
missed his third straight game with a bruised left wrist. … White
Sox DH Adam Dunn(notes) was not with the team for the third straight day to tend to
family matters. … Konerko reached base 10 times on 14 plate appearances during
the three-game series.

Mauer Starts Game At First Base, Collects Three…

After being penciled into the Minnesota Twins’ lineup as a catcher 714 times in his Major League Baseball career, Joe Mauer made a start at another position on Thursday night against the Chicago White Sox, as Ron Gardenhire gave him the start at first base.

If present results are an indicator of future performance, one wonders whether or not the Twins could teach Justin Morneau to catch.

Mauer put together his first three-hit game of the year on Thursday night, driving in two runs as the Twins defeated the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field by a score of 6-2. The Twins’ poster boy had a pretty decent night in the field as well, including accounting for all three first inning outs on an unassisted double play on a line drive by Omar Vizquel, and a groundout by Adam Dunn.

The Twins got on the board early, as Ben Revere reached on an infield single and stole second base to start the game. After Alexi Casilla’s ground out moved Revere to third, Mauer singled to center to bring Revere home and give the Twins a quick 1-0 lead. They picked up a couple more in the second when Danny Valencia led off the inning with a double and scored on a base hit by Tsuyoshi Nishioka. Nishioka then stole second and came in to score on Revere’s RBI single to make the score 3-0.

Minnesota did some more damage in the top of the fourth, as Nishioka and Drew Butera collected back-to-back singles with one out. Revere then singled again to bring Nishioka around to score and make the Minnesota lead 4-0. After Casilla struck out, Mauer laced a single to right. Butera came around to score and, thanks to White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko’s inability to field the throw from the outfield, Revere came in to score as well to make the score 6-0.

That was more than enough for Carl Pavano (6-6, 4.10 ERA), who pitched seven strong innings for the Twins on the evening. Pavano made one mistake in the bottom of the fifth, as he allowed Mark Teahen to hit a two-run home run to cut the score to 6-2, but neither team scored the rest of the way. Glen Perkins pitched a 1-2-3 eighth with two strikeouts, and Matt Capps threw a perfect ninth to close things out.

For the Sox, former Twin Philip Humber (8-5, 3.10 ERA) took the loss. Humber failed to make it out of the fourth inning, allowing all six runs on eleven hits in just 3.2 innings of work. Hector Santiago and Brian Bruney combined for 5.1 innings of two-hit ball in relief of Humber for the White Sox.

The Minnesota victory was their fifth over the White Sox this season, and their thirteenth in their last fifteen match-ups against Chicago. Because of the Cleveland Indians’ 5-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night, the Twins remain eight games back in the American League Central.

The same two teams will get together again on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM Central time. The Twins will give the ball to Nick Blackburn (6-6, 4.02 ERA), while the White Sox will turn to right-hander Gavin Floyd (6-8, 4.17 ERA).

That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow.
